The following letter is printed with the authors permission:
Last fall I was a cardiac patient on Farr 2 for 16 days. I was impressed
by the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care on that floor, and by
my medical care from three teams of doctors and nurse practitioners.
In addition, Id like to single out and commend another group of
caregivers who were an important part of my experience: the patient care
technicians and nursing assistants, particularly Janice George and Nadine
St. Phard. They were prompt, friendly, efficient, and frequently in my
room doing vitals or tending to my needs.
I was not only impressed by their care, but also by their gifts of intelligence
and intuition. Janice, [a nursing assistant], is more articulate and thoughtful
about world events than I will ever be; Nadine, [a patient care technician],
noticed a hymnal in my stack of books, so she sang hymns with me while
making my bed or helping me with a shower. They are truly lovely people
and vitally important to the patients they care for.
Sincerely,
Jane Greenspan
