Mother's Walk for Peace
Join the staff and patients of Bowdoin Street Health Center for the 3.6-mile
walk through Dorchester's neighborhoods, beginning and ending at Townfield
Park (a park and sports field), in Field's Corner. Most participants are
on their way home by 10:30 a.m. to enjoy a full Mother's Day with family,
friends and of course, Mom.
Clementina Chéry conceived
the Mother's Day Walk as a personal effort to symbolize her defiance of
the streets that stole her son. Louis D. Brown was 15 years old when on
December 20, 1993, he was murdered in the crossfire of a gang shooting
in Dorchester. Today, the walk draws about 1,500 people, including 500
who are families of survivors of violent crimes.
Registration/information: Call Jessica at (617) 825-1917, or stop by 1452
Dorchester Ave, 2nd floor.

their feelings. This talk covers everything about the transition, from

"The Impact that Fathers
Have on
the Lives of their Children"
One of the most critical,
yet often overlooked, influences in family life is the father-child relationship.
As a growing body of research suggests, when fathers are both physically
and emotionally present in their children's lives, the children are more
successful academically and healthier psychologically. Join John Badalament,
Ed.M, Director/Producer of the PBS documentary, "All Men are Sons:
Exploring the legacy of Fatherhood," for a provocative presentation
that will inspire dialogue and reflection, challenge stereotypes and offer
rare insights into a crucial but largely unexplored subject - the emotionally
rich and psychologically complex inner lives of men. Open to men and women
interested in these issues.
