The following letter was sent to Patricia McNamee, R.N., M.S., clinical
director, labor and delivery. It is reprinted with the patients
permission:
Dear Ms. McNamee,
I am writing this letter of commendation to you for the care I received
during my labor and delivery at BIDMC. My labor was three days long, so
I have a lot of people to thank. I wish I could remember every name. There
are a few people, however, whose contributions really stand out.
To Marybeth [Meservey, R.N.C., M.S.]: Thank you for your unshakably cheerful
disposition, even in the face of my frustration and fear. You reminded
me that a sense of humor is essential when facing any life challenge,
be it birth or motherhood itself.
To Katrina [Bichler, R.N., B.S.N.]: You helped me admit that I needed
(and wanted) an epidural, and helped me through the placement. Your faith
in me, combined with the dignity you allowed me to keep, kept me going
for the many hours of labor to come.
To Donna [Pendoley, R.N.C., M.S.]: There were so many times I almost gave
up
but you never gave up on me. You pushed me when I was ready to
throw in the towel, comforted me when I cried, and protected me
The nurses spun a web of expertise and compassion that enabled me to feel
more empowered. My husband, my gorgeous (and more importantly, HEALTHY)
baby and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!
