Ralph de la Torre, M.D., cardiac surgery, was featured in a Page One Boston Globe story about a minimally invasive “keyhole” surgery to repair or replace mitral valves. That failure could be linked to weight gain.

Rosen said full body scans are beneficial tools in diagnosing medical conditions in appropriate populations but as with all technologies, should be used with moderation and common sense.

Robert Stern, M.D., dermatology, discussed the health complications that can result from illegally conducted cosmetic procedures that go awry, in an interview with WHDH-TV, Channel 7.

Christos Mantzoros, M.D., endocrinology, received widespread attention to a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine that examined the role of the hormone leptin in regulating fertility problems. Stories appeared in The Boston Globe, on the Reuters newswire, WBUR-FM and in newspapers including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Arizona Republic. Colleague Jean Chan, M.D., endocrinology, was widely quoted when The Associated Press reported on the study.
