A Barbecue for Champions

Cool weather and sizzlin’ hot grills drew throngs of staff into the Shapiro courtyard and surrounding areas for BIDMC’s fifth annual Employee Appreciate Barbecue on June 16.

While partygoers munched on hamburgers, hotdogs, corn, ice cream and more, they enjoyed the funky sounds of Athene Wilson and the Soul Source Band.

Staff also stopped to pick up new BIDMC/Red Sox visors and viewed “Hospital of Champions” posters that summarized BIDMC’s recent successes, echoing the championships of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

The free raffle ticket tables were busy, with numerous items at stake – from a baseball autographed by Red Sox pitcher Keith Foulke and game tickets to coffee, dinners and passes to summer amusements. In addition, attendees enthusiastically paid $5 per raffle ticket to support the geriatric program at BIDMC and for a chance to see the Rolling Stones play at Fenway Park in August. BIDMC vice presidents, chiefs and directors volunteered throughout the event.

However, the hardest workers were those from food services, environmental services, groundskeeping and facilities, human resources, the employee involvement committee, transportation and public safety who made the day possible.
The festivities continued inside on the evening and night shifts, with similar celebrations at BID-Needham, Chelsea, Lexington and the Bowdoin Street Health Center.
