LABORATORY REPORTS

The results of anatomic and clinical pathology specimens are reported in two main ways, via printed report, and electronically in the Hospital Information Systems (including CCC). Additionally, results which are "critical" will be called to the provider, in accordance with our critical value policy.

Printed Reports:

Inpatients:

A cumulative (summary) report is printed upon discharge, for incorporation into the medical record.

Outpatients:

Specimen reports are printed when all tests are completed. If tests are still pending at 48 hours, an interim report will print.  Reports are printed by the Pathology staff and sent through interoffice mail, unless a location has on-site printing.

Outreach sites:

Physician offices are able to print their own reports daily; this capability is arranged as part of laboratory services.  Alternatively, reports can be mailed.  Arrangements for reports should be made through Customer Service or the Outreach Manager.

Electronic reporting via the laboratory information system (CCC): Electronic reporting is the fastest way to find results. All results are immediately available in CCC as soon as they have been finalized within the laboratory. Please check the computer before calling the lab if at all possible. See also How to Use CCC System to look up results .
