Access to Library Facility
Weekdays (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday): The Agoos Medical Library is staffed and open to all BIDMC and CareGroup staff and students. Nights/Weekends/Holidays: Available to BIDMC staff and students only. Access card (Sensor card) required. To obtain Sensor card access:

  • Go to Security (Farr-1 on West Campus) to request Library access be added to your existing Sensor card.
  • If you don't have a Sensor card, first get a signed "access card request" form from library staff, then present request form with BIDMC ID badge to Security Department on Farr-1.

    Circulation
    The book collections include both circulating textbooks and non-circulating reference books. Circulating books are checked out during staffed hours (M-F, 8-6). Borrower must have a BIDMC or CareGroup corporate ID. The loan period is two weeks. One renewal is permitted. Reference books and journals do not circulate except for slide production or scanning. BIDMC ID is required and the item must be checked out during staffed hours.

    Computer Workstation Access
    There are 8 computers, 2 printers and a scanner in the Agoos Library for use by BIDMC and CareGroup staff and students. Computer workstations may be used for business or study purposes only. Priority is given to users who are accessing knowledge-based resources (e.g., MEDLINE or the Library Catalog). Use of a personal nature is not allowed, nor is loading or altering any software on library workstations.

    Interlibrary Loan
    For BIDMC staff only. To obtain books or journal articles not held in BIDMC libraries, a request is made at the Agoos Library or by phone at 632-8312. Requests carry a $5.00 charge per article (payable in advance). (See Document Delivery page for more details)

    Photocopying
    Photocopiers are self-service. Only Library materials may be copied. Please return journals to the shelves after copying.

    Reference & Orientation Services
    Library Staff instructs users in the use of electronic or print materials, or in the planning of literature searches. Library orientation, consultation and instruction are provided to both groups and individuals. Urgent patient care reference queries are handled stat.
